What should you expect from us as we re-open?
Like most small businesses, we were closed for three months by the state from March 15 to June 20th. However, unlike some businesses that can quickly meet customer demand fairly seamlessly, our reopening is much more complicated.
- First, we have an overwhelming backlog of driving lessons and road tests that didn’t happen over the last 90 days, all of which now need to be rescheduled.
- Second, about 30% of our instructors are not coming back to work because they’re part of the at-risk group for COVID-19. We’re hiring and training new instructors, but have no assurance from the DMV that their weeks-long instructor-certification process will be expedited. So, the reality is, our driving lesson capacity will be less this summer than it was three months ago.
Perhaps the best analogy is reopening only one lane of I-95 South to traffic after an unexpected and lengthy closure. All those cars still need to get through, but it’s going to take a lot longer than usual. And it’s not going to be pretty.
The bottom line is, it’s not business as usual for us, and it won’t be for some time.
This page will provide answers to many of the questions we are getting on a daily basis as well as links to safety protocols and updates as we get them. If you don’t find the answer to your question, please send an email to: firstname.lastname@example.org
Road Tests @ FGL (Updated 8.14.2020)
Road Test Protocols
The CT DMV has issued required protocols for Road Tests that take place at our locations that MUST be followed by all students. This includes wearing FGL provided KN95 masks and protective gloves, so please review prior to your Road Test.
Here is additional information:
I’M READY TO TEST AND WOULD LIKE TO SCHEDULE A ROAD TEST WITH FGL
If you have completed all of your course work and would like to take your Road Test with Fresh Green Light, please click here and fill out this form.
Our goal is to open up Road Test scheduling online in early September for tests for the rest of 2020. We will send out an email letting you know when this is possible.
I’M DOING MY ROAD TEST AT THE DMV & I NEED MY CS-1 CERTIFICATE
Please send a copy of your permit and your Road Test date to email@example.com at least a week in advance of your Road Test at the DMV so we can process your CS-1. We will not be processing CS-1 certificates if you have not completed all the requirements for your Road Test.
DO I NEED TO COMPLETE ALL MY DRIVING LESSONS IN ORDER TO TEST?
If you’ve held your Learner’s Permit for 6 months or more and completed Classes 9, 10, 11 & the Parent/Teen Class, you are eligible for your Road Test and do not need to complete all your driving lessons.
If you are planning on testing at Fresh Green Light, you must complete at least 2 driving lessons in order to be eligible to test. If you are testing at the DMV, there is no driving lesson requirement. These are the DMV rules, not ours.
In-Car Lessons @ FGL (Updated 8.14.2020)
While we know everyone is anxious to get their driving lessons scheduled, we have decided to manage the booking process so we can manage the process fairly and more efficiently to start.
As per the State of CT and the DMV, we have instituted new safety protocols for all of our in-car driving lessons. Please review these protocols prior to your driving lessons.
I SIGNED UP BEFORE YOU CLOSED FOR THE PANDEMIC (Before March 15th) – WHEN CAN I BOOK MY DRIVING LESSONS?
This group has access to online scheduling of drivings lessons as of August 10th. Click here to access the Student Center.
I SIGNED UP AFTER YOU CLOSED FOR THE PANDEMIC (After March 15th thru June 2nd)- WHEN CAN I BOOK MY DRIVING LESSONS?
For students who signed up for Fresh Green Light after March 15th, our current goal is to open up limited driving lessons for online scheduling on or around August 15th We will send out an email letting you know when this is available.
I SIGNED UP AFTER JUNE 3RD- WHEN CAN I BOOK MY DRIVING LESSONS?
For students who signed up for Fresh Green Light after June 3rd, you were made aware that it would be at least 90 days after your registration date before driving lessons would be available to you for sign-up. While we hope it won’t be 90 days, at this point, that is the expectation we should all be working from.
We will send out an email letting you know when driving lessons are available for you to sign up online through our Student Center .
WHY IS THIS TAKING SO LONG? I’VE SIGNED UP FOR THE 4 MONTH PROGRAM AND NEED MY LESSONS!
This is a sentiment we hear a lot these days, so I think the easiest way to explain is that it’s going to be impossible to make up for a 90 day shut down in 30 days. It just doesn’t work at that way.
A more realistic expectation is to add 90 days to whatever time frame you had in your mind to get your driver’s license. We didn’t create this problem and are doing the best we can to get everyone through as quickly and fairly as possible.
Online Classes @ FGL (Updated 8.14.2020)
One of the positive outcomes of the Pandemic has been the ability to conduct the classroom portion of our program online for our students. The response has been overwhelmingly positive from both student and parents alike.
We will be conducting classes online through the end of 2020 at least. Calendars will be entered on a month to month basis as we understand what the local High Schools are doing with their fall schedules.
Here’s a link to everything you need to know about Online Classes @ FGL.
What Do We Expect From You As We Re-Open?
To put it simply, we expect the same from you that you should expect from us … empathy, respect and fairness.
Please know that we’re doing the very best we can to manage this unprecedented situation. It’s not ideal for anyone. We know you’re going to be frustrated. We are too. But the circumstances are, in so many ways, truly out of our control.
As the owner of the business, I’d like to graciously ask you for one thing. Please don’t take your frustration out on our staff. Each of our team will do all they can to find you the best solution that’s both fair and feasible at this moment in time. Sometimes that solution might not be ideal for you. (Honestly, it probably won’t be, given the circumstances.) But it’s going to be the best we can do right now.
At the end of the day, some of our customers may decide that what we’re able to offer doesn’t meet their needs. We understand that, and we’re prepared to refund the cost of any unused driving lessons so they can work with another driving school to complete them.
